Today marks the one year of full-scale war in Ukraine.

Ukraine has been fighting for 365 days against Russian aggression, and we honour and support all those who are courageously fighting for their freedom.

“One year ago, democracy was attacked by a ruthless dictator, Vladimir Putin, who declared a full-scale war on Ukraine,” said Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Parliamentary Secretary for Ukrainian Refugee Settlement Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk in a statement.

“The loss of life is senseless and devastating. Ukrainians, and Albertans of Ukrainian descent, find the pain in their hearts to be unbearable. Numerous brave Ukrainians have died in the line of duty defending their democracy, country, freedom and way of life.

“Albertans were some of the first to step up and welcome displaced Ukrainians and offer them much-needed safety and security. We want to make it clear that Alberta will welcome any displaced Ukrainian who needs a safe place to stay.

“Alberta and Albertans have and will continue to support all displaced Ukrainian evacuees during this senseless war.

“Slava Ukraini!”

We remember the innocent lives that have been lost, and reaffirm Alberta will welcome any displaced Ukrainian who needs a safe place to stay.
